Engelke's trumpet playing is a hallmark of the project, but his creation of the fixed media and accompanying video set a lofty standard for contemporary media projects.
Brett Long, International Trumpet Guild Journal, album review
This collection is a must-have for performers who wish to expand their repertoire of innovative contemporary works.
Christopher Luebke-Brown, International Trumpet Guild Journal, book review
A native of Brazil, Engelke infuses modern American writing with traditional Brazilian rhythmic elements to create an exciting experience for the audience and performer alike.

  1. 1

    Voces Lucis et Tenebrae

    Voices of Light and Darkness

Explores the middle ground within the contrasts of light and dark, good and evil, simplicity and complexity.

  2. 2

    Lacrimosa

    Song of Sorrow

Conveys the feelings drawn from the many losses during the pandemic: the passing of friends, colleagues, and music legends; isolation and loss of freedom during quarantine; and the shuttering of concert halls and limiting of live performance.

  3. 3

    Sanctus

    Hymn of Victory

Celebrates the spirit of ingenuity and collaboration that guides the American people and global community through the development of treatments and vaccines.

  4. 4

    Urban Illusion

City dwellers have used graffiti and other forms of art to reflect on social issues and discontent. Urban Illusion salutes the energy and imagination these street artists bring to their landscapes, often without credit, and the impact they can have on local communities and policymakers.

  5. 5

    Skyscraper

Memories of spending time at the top of the original World Trade Center (Twin Towers) in New York City as a child evoke the allure, magnificence, and grandeur of these high-rises, as well as the disorientation and vertigo of looking down. Skyscraper celebrates these emotions and the elevated feelings they inspire.

  6. 6

    Menace

Mankind's quality of life is improved by innovations in technology and urbanization, but at what cost? Is artificial intelligence a friend or foe? With each new development, what challenges and concerns arise? Are those who manipulate and control new technologies for their own gain just a Menace?

  7. 7

    Dominus

    Humanity's Dominion

In many religious beliefs, humans were given dominion over all the earth: a gift from a higher power entrusted to mankind to safeguard the land, the sea, the plants, and the animals. Dominus and its fixed media venerate these beautiful landscapes and places that may disappear or be changed forever without moderation and respect.

  8. 8

    Benevolence

With the advent of the Ukrainian war in 2022, the fact that tyranny and cruelty have not begun to be eradicated from the world was made clear. Where would the poor and oppressed be without the Benevolence of others?

  9. 9

    Aurora Solis

    Dawn of the Sun

Every morning should come with a sense of drive and renewal: a fresh start. Aurora Solis depicts this optimism.

  10. 10

    Revelation

Depicts the journey from naiveté and childlike views of singularity to acquiring knowledge and developing a multifaceted, nuanced worldview.
